The National Stone, Sand and Gravel Association (NSSGA) created the Jennifer Curtis Byler Scholarship Fund to memorialize the life and accomplishments of a sand and gravel producer’s family member who had an intense interest in the political process. Income from the fund is used to provide an annual scholarship to be awarded to the child of an aggregates industry employee who wishes to pursue collegiate studies in public affairs. Jennifer, a mother of four children, was a National Republican Committee woman for Virginia, an appointed member of the Virginia Board of Education and a consult-ant and fundraiser to both candidate and issue campaigns. The scholarship is funded by contributions from companies and individuals.
Scholarship Eligibility. Graduating high school seniors or students already enrolled in a public affairs major in college who are sons or daughters of an aggregates company employee may apply for the scholarship, and could qualify for the annual $2,500 award.
Judging Committee. Scholarship applications will be reviewed and judged by a panel including the current NSSGA chairmen of the Government Affairs Committee, a representative of the industry trade press and a senior NSSGA staff member.
Application Deadline and Award Presentation. Applications will be taken beginning June 1, 2013. The deadline for applications is Aug. 31, 2013. The winning applicant will be named by Sept. 30, 2013.
